Mantilija Dam Removal Rindge Dam Removal Over Pumping of Mammoth Creek
Mantilija Dam Removal Constructed in 1947, the Mantilija Dam on the Ventura River long became obsolete. The buildup of sediment behind the dam destroyed the flood control purpose of the dam shortly after it was constructed. The dam now blocks endangered steelhead runs and causes significant environmental problems including beach erosion at the mouth of the river. Water4Fish joins numerous local groups in calling for completion of this project. Congress authorized the removal several years ago but the necessary funding has never been appropriated.
Rindge Dam RemovalThe Rindage Dam on Malibu Creek was constructed in 1928. Its 574 acre foot reservoir long ago filled with sediment. The useless dam now blocks 8 miles of prime steelhead spawning beds. Water4Fish joins in calling for the expeditious removal of this dam.
Over Pumping of Mammoth Creek Mammoth Creek and Hat Creek support a strong run of wild trout. Over pumping of Mammoth and its aquifers to serve the needs of nearby condo developments has threatened to dry up the creeks and destroy the runs. This needs to be corrected. Water4Fish supports the local groups calling for resolution of this problem.
