Fish Out Of Water This report by the Natural Resources Defense Council details the reasons for the collapse of the Central Valley salmon runs. It attributes most of the problem to excess water exports from the delta. The report also presents a water plan for the future that provides the water needs for salmon to recover and also meets the needs of agricultural and municipal users. www.nrdc.org/water/conservation/salmon/contents.asp

The Rise and Fall of the Central Valley Chinook Salmon This easy to read chart traces the returns of the Central Valley salmon from a low of 100,000 in 1990 to a record of 780,000 in 2002 and then to the complete crash in 2007.

Stakeholders Proposal for the Recovery of the Central Valley Fall Run Salmon.  This proposal shows how the recovery of the Fall Run Chinook can be completed to restore recreational and commercial fishing seasons by 2010 and 2011.  It relys on getting all hatcheries into full production and then minimizing smolt losses in the Delta by trucking smolts to acclimation pens in San Pablo Bay.  The proposal also shows how the natural spawning runs can be restored over time.  Click on Salmon Recovery.  To get the pages full screen, click on the right hand box in the grey area.  Use the + and - to change the page sizes.  Use the right and left arrows to move between pages.
