- Governor Schwarzenegger is pushing his new state water plan. Two new reservoirs and a Delta Conveyance system (Peripheral Canal). Not one word on fish protections.

- The California sport and commercial salmon fishing season has been closed for the first time in history because of the delta collapse.
- Provisions of Central Valley Project Improvement Act, a law designed to protect fish, are being ignored.
- In 2007 and 2008 State and Federal courts found that the state and federal fishery agencies violated the Endangered Species Act by allowing more pumping of water. New biological opinions to protect endangered fish were ordered by the courts.
- The Delta Fishery has collapsed. Delta pumping has increased to the peril of many species of fish. The Delta Smelt appears headed for extinction and there are record low levels of salmon striped bass and other species. The 2008 and 2009 salmon seasons have been cancelled.
Delta Smelt
- Fish runs have been severely degraded in many California rivers including the Sacramento, Klamath, San Joaquin, American, Eel, and Trinity. The causes include water diversions, dams, inadequate flows, high temperatures, toxic algae, pollution and habitat destruction.
